Abstract

The study aimed to identify the impact of applying governance principles on achieving university functions in the capital, Sana’a. The researchers employed the descriptive (survey and correlational) approach and used a questionnaire as the main data collection tool. The sample csisted 162 university professors, selected using the stratified sampling method.

The results revealed that the overall level of applying governance principles was moderate. The principle of independence recorded the highest mean, followed by accountability and responsibility, both at a high level, while the principle of justice and fairness obtained the lowest mean. Regarding the performance of university functions, the overall level was also moderate. The teaching function achieved the highest mean score (3.44) at a high level, compared with scientific research (3.05) and community service (3.13).

Moreover, the findings indicated a statistically significant impact at the 0.05 level for the application of governance principles on achieving university functions. The principles of independence and justice and fairness showed a strong significant effect, whereas transparency, accountability, and participation had no statistically significant impact on university functions.

Based on these results, the researchers recommended strengthening justice and fairness, enhancing effective participation of faculty members, students, and the community in decision-making, allocating stable financial resources for scientific research and community service, and empowering universities to exercise their academic and administrative autonomy within a clear institutional framework. Additionally, they emphasized the need for effective accountability systems and the establishment of specialized governance and quality units.
