The Cognitive and Emotional Challenges Faced by Secondary School Students in Learning Mathematics in Abyan Governorate

The study aimed to identify the cognitive and emotional challenges faced by secondary school students in learning mathematics in Abyan Governorate. The research adopted the descriptive (survey) method, using a questionnaire as the main tool for data collection. The instrument’s validity and reliability were verified before it was applied to a sample of (400) male and female secondary school students.
The results revealed that the level of cognitive challenges faced by students in learning mathematics reached a mean score of (2.53), indicating a high level. Similarly, the level of emotional challenges reached a mean score of (2.74), also at a high level. The findings further indicated that cognitive and emotional challenges significantly affect students’ academic achievement in mathematics, with a mean score of (2.54) at a high level. Moreover, the results showed no statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level in the responses of the study sample regarding the cognitive and emotional challenges, attributed to the gender variable (male–female).
