This study is underpinned by the argumentative theory in investigating Surat Al-Waqi’ah, as a model for the Qur’anic discourse, in which the art of division comes as a structural style that is based on the argumentative stance with its various linguistic and rhetorical components. The effectiveness of the Al-Badi’i style (rhetoric, figurative style) can be seen in carrying the argumentative dimensions of the Qur’anic text, unlike many texts in which this rhetoric style may come as an obstacle that prevents the discourse to carry out its influential and persuasive function.
The study starts with an introduction that explains the pragmatics of the rhetorical arts, especially the creative art, and the peculiarity of the argumentativeness of Surat al-Waqi’ah which relies on the tripartite division of destinies of resurrection, as well as the quadruple division of the matter of creation and existence through the argumentative principle leading to the findings. Eventually, the study revealed that there is a clear fundamental and semantic issue in this Quranic Surah that expresses its realism and aesthetic formulation in words and linguistic structures that govern the argumentativeness making use of the rhetorical possibilities to achieve a robust argumentative function.
