Abstract

Sound is an important phenomenon and one of the effective component of language, so language without sound like the dead corpus, because the written language is worthless without sounds. The study of language from this destination belongs to the one of the branches of linguistics called "phonology", which  concerned the study of  speech sounds and its characteristics and functions. Scientists have learned the importance of this type of the study a long time ago and began to pay attention to the study of the sounds of language. The study of the sounds began in its first time theoretically based on observation no longer use experimental and application tools. The sound lesson was carefully studied by ancient Arab, Indian and Greek scholars, their studies became the basis of modern studies of the sounds in different sides. In the modern area, since the late eighteenth century the efforts of scholars began to appear in this field and appeared more detailed and accurate studies as the result of emergence of sounds Lab and variant experimental tools. As the result of this, the phonology witnessed remarkable development in its different branches. The study of sounds in this age has found a great appreciation and interest in the West, while in our Arab world the matter is different, although our ancestors are scientists in this field. The study found out several results."
