This study examines the benefits of cultural critcisim derived from structuralist criticism in Yemeni cultural studies through the critical achivements of a number of Yemeni critics. The study has found that they effectively employed structuralist approach in their studies and benefited from its analytical procedures, and harnessed them to serve the cultural criticism.
The researcher in his study adopted the methodology of critique of criticism (meta-criticism) at its three analytical levels: questioning, interpretation, and comprehensive review which operates through multiple analytical pathways, including the deconstructing the structuralist and cultural procedural frameworks of critical text and conducting an approach between them through the mechanisms of description, analysis, interpretation, induction, and synthesis."
The study reaches several significant conclusions which demonstrates that cultural criticism in Yemeni cultural studies has benefited from structuralism, regarding it the only way to break the artistic camouflage and exposing the hidden structures of power underlying text, and uncovering the latent systemic truths embedded behind both classical and modern poetic and narrative texts.
Furthermore the conclusions demonstrated that structuralism constituted the technical foundation of cultural criticism by enabling an internal reading of the text (textual structuralism) as an essential procedural step toward an external reading that relates the text to its political and social context.
The conclusions further demonstrated that comparative cultural criticism employed structuralist tools to break the Western centric monopoly over aesthetic value and to expose the underlying systemic projections intended to reinforce the cultural superiority of the Center while distorting the image of the Other. The cinclusions also showed that structuralism represents a rigorous scientific framework that safeguards critical text from the subjectivity of narrators and the biases of historians as it is an objective analysis of the latent structures embedded in the language of literary texts.
